still expecting stormy weather

It will be showery today, with mainly scattered off-and-on type showers, along with breezy conditions. A brief lull will occur tonight into most of the day tomorrow before a much stronger storm moves into our area tomorrow night. This storm will bring occasional heavy rain and gusty southeasterly winds to Chico. The mountains will see heavy snow and whiteout conditions above 4500-5000 feet tomorrow night and into Tuesday. A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for the Sierra Nevada mountains above 4500 feet. By Wednesday, another powerful storm will affect the region, bringing more heavy rain and strong winds, along with snow above 5000 feet. Each successive storm will be warmer than the previous one, causing snow levels to rise above 7000 feet by late in the week. Snow amounts between tomorrow and Friday could be in excess of five feet above 6000-7000 feet in elevation. Rainfall amounts in the valley this week could total 3-4 inches. Wind gusts at times in the valley could reach tropical storm force strength (39 mph), while gusts in the mountains could exceed 60 mph. If traveling to the mountains, pack a winter survival kit; travel will be treacherous this upcoming week. Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service:
