This weekend's weather has been, in a word, spectacular. Yesterday's high temperatures were in the mid- to upper- 60s, while this afternoon's temps have ranged from the lower 70s at the Chico Airport to the upper 70s at the Chico State Farm. All of the flowering trees- such as the plum, cherry, pear, and apple- are in full bloom, and the grass in the foothills east of town is turning an emerald green. The California poppies ar blooming, as well, providing a splash of orange color. Spring is bustin' out all over! However, this warm weather will be coming to a brief end as a strong cold front works its way south from the Gulf of Alaska. Not much precipitation will be with this system- mainly colder air and gusty northwest winds, especially on Tuesday. Once this storm moves out of the area, enjoy the return of sunny and mild weather the rest of the work week. There will be a slight chance of showers next weekend, but the temperatures will continue to be mild. Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service:
Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 41. South southeast wind at 5 mph becoming east northeast.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 69. East northeast wind at 11 mph becoming south southeast.
Monday Night: Rain likely, mainly between 10pm and 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. South southeast wind between 8 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
Tuesday: A 20 percent chance of showers before 10am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 57. Breezy, with a north northwest wind 6 to 9 mph increasing to between 23 and 26 mph. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph.
Tuesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 34. North northwest wind between 11 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.
Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 65.
