Still rain in the forecast? In May?

OK, it's just a slight chance, but still. We should be moving on from the rain and into sunny, warm weather. However, there is a chance of rain from Wednesday night through Thursday night for Chico. After high temperatures in the 80s the past three days (with today feeling particularly humid), highs will drop back into the lower 70s later this week. By Sunday and Monday temperatures rebound into the mid 70s (right about where we should be for early May). Here's the seven day forecast for Chico from the National Weather Service: Tonight: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 52. North northwest wind between 7 and 10 mph. spectacular weather ahead

It doesn't get much better than this: sunny skies and high temperatures in the 70s and 80s. That's what we can expect for Chico the next seven days. It will be a bit on the breezy side this weekend as northerly winds may gust up to 25 mph at times. Other than that, it will be gorgeous; get out and enjoy this great weather! Also, if recreating at one of our many bodies of water (Sacramento River, Feather River, Chico Creek, Butte Creek, Lake Oroville), use caution as the waters are running quite cold this time of year due to snowmelt in the mountains. For other ideas on what to do this weekend, check out the Chico News and Review link to the right-hand side of my main page. High temps in the area have topped out in the upper 70s/ lower 80s, a good 10-15 degrees cooler than this past weekend. It will continue to get cooler as the Delta Breeze kicks in later tonight and tomorrow. That means southerly winds will transport cooler marine air up north from the Sacramento River Delta. A fairly weak storm system will move through Wednesday, bringing showers and even cooler temps. Showers linger into Thursday before clearing out by Friday. Highs this coming weekend will be warm- in the mid 80s- but not as hot as this past weekend. Hot in April

It was quite warm (some may say even downright hot) yesterday in Chico, as the high temperature at the airport reached 88 degrees. At the Chico State Farm on the south side of town, the temperature hit 91 degrees. Normal highs for late April are in the mid 70s. Expect another hot day today, with forecast highs in the lower 90s. What happened to spring? Not to worry; spring weather returns next week as highs cool down into the 70s for highs by the middle of next week. There's even a chance for rain next Thursday. In the meantime, for those who love the hot weather, enjoy this weekend! The California Nut Festival is happening today at Patrick Ranch, located in Durham, south of Chico. If attending, wear light-colored and loose-fitting clothing, and have fun this weekend! Here's Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Today: Sunny, with a high near 91. warming up

Today was a warm one, with a high temperature in Chico of 80 degrees. The warm up will continue tomorrow and into the weekend as strong high pressure builds in over the Northstate. Highs will reach the mid to upper 80s by Saturday. The warm up won't last long, however, and by the middle of next week high temps will fall back into the upper 60s. Dry conditions will persist the next seven days, so get out and enjoy the warm weather! Just be careful- drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen, and avoid the temptation to jump into the still very cold waters of our numerous creeks and streams. Snow melt will be occuring this weekend, and the waters will be cold and swift. Use caution. Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service:

heat wave coming

Well, relatively speaking. Especially compared to our recent temperatures, which have been stuck in the upper 60s/ lower 70s the past several days. Plus, there has been more cloud cover than expected as storms push through the Pacific Northwest and we see the tail ends of these storms in the form of clouds. No rain with these clouds, though, and we should expect dry conditions for the next seven days. Also, look for a BIG warm-up in temperatures the next few days. By Friday we could reach 90 degrees! Mid 80s are forecast for this weekend, so break out the shorts and flip-flops! Temps should moderate to near normal by early next week. Here's Chico's seven day forecast in detail from the National Weather Service:

perhaps 80 degrees by the end of the week?

This weekend has been gorgeous weatherwise, with just a few clouds and high temperatures both yesterday (Saturday) and today (Sunday) in the lower 70s. The work week ahead should be equally as nice, with highs tomorrow (Monday) through Wednesday in the lower 70s. High temps on Thursday should reach or eclipse the 80 degree mark, while highs Friday through next Sunday will hover in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. Sunny skies and clear to partly cloudy nights will rule the weather in Chico the next seven days, so no need to carry that umbrella. Just make sure you have the shades and wear light-weight clothing (perhaps a jacket in the morning). Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service:

rain rain go away

It was downright gloomy in Chico today, with rain showers throughout the morning and early afternoon and temperatures stuck in the low 50s for highs. There will be just a few scattered showers tonight before the sun (mercifully) returns tomorrow. It looks like sunny, dry weather will hang out for the next week, with just a slight chance of a shower Wednesday night. High temperatures will warm up, with 60s tomorrow and 70s pretty much the rest of the week. Chico State University celebrates 125 years this year, and there will be a community open house tomorrow from 1-5 pm. The entire community is welcome to tour the campus, with student-led tours, lectures by favorite Chico State professors, museum tours, games for the kids, and of course, food. Come on out to the campus tomorrow and see things you thought never existed. The weather should totally cooperate, so walk around the campus, enjoy the azaleas in bloom, and soak up some sunshine! Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 40. Calm wind becoming north northeast around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

After today's balmy high of 70 degrees in Chico, the rest of this week will be chilly by comparison. It will also be wet as two weather systems ride the jet stream right into Northern California. Highs the next few days will be chilly for this time of year- mainly mid 50s to around 60 degrees. By Saturday, the sun returns and temperatures will respond to the sunny weather. Sunshine will dominate the weather into early next week. For the mountains, expect snow accumulations generally above 4500-5000 feet tomorrow through Friday. A quick-moving weak frontal system will briefly drop some light rain showers overnight tonight in the valley. Mountain areas will see some snow, but not much in the way of accumulation. no foolin- the sun returns today

Yesterday was nasty in Chico, especially during the morning. Winds gusted to nearly 40 mph with heavy rain at times. By late morning the rain had subsided, and the sun came out briefly before the clouds and scattered showers returned. Fortunately, there was no severe weather or hail. The clouds will slowly exit our area this morning, and the afternoon should be sunny. There could be some patchy fog this morning, so be aware. Otherwise, expect sunny and dry weather the next three days. There will be a weak storm moving through Tuesday night into Wednesday, but the end of the week looks dry. High temperatures will be below normal all week, with daytime highs only in the upper 50s to upper 60s (we should be in the lower 70s for early April). At least the sun will shine! Here's Chico's seven day outlook from the National Weather Service:
