Happy First Day of Summer

Today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year (as far as hours of daylight). Today definitely felt like the first day of summer, as the high temperature in Chico reached 97 degrees. The first full weekend of summer will feel more like the middle of spring, as a deep trough of low pressure swings down from the Gulf of Alaska. There may even be a slight chance of showers Saturday with this trough. What will definitely happen will be a reduction of temps beginning tomorrow. By Saturday, highs will be up to 20 degrees cooler than today's highs. The cooler air will last through the middle of next week. Get outside this weekend and enjoy the refreshing weather headed our way! Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Tonight: Clear, with a low around 61. South wind around 6 mph becoming east northeast. Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 91. South southeast wind 5 to 8 mph increasing to between 17 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. South southeast wind between 13 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.
