still nice weather ahead

This weekend was absolutely spectacular, with sunnys skies both yesterday and today and highs in the mid 70s. Last Friday was mostly cloudy, with some spits of rain and highs right around 70 degrees. That will likely be our last chance for rain for awhile. Sunny skies will continue this work week and temps will gradually increase. However, highs should stay below 90 degrees through next weekend. It could be much hotter this time of year, that's for sure. I'm loving this relatively mild weather! I know many people in the Intermountain West wish they could have our weather. Utah and Colorado are getting hit hard with numerous wildfires and searing heat. Again, I'm thankful for the weather we're having. Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. Calm wind becoming east northeast around 6 mph. Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. South southeast wind 5 to 8 mph increasing to between 13 and 16 mph. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 50. Cool for the first weekend of summer

Is it June or April? Showers are in the forecast today for Chico and high temperatures will only be around 70 degrees. That's nearly 20 degrees below average! Temps will warm into the mid 70s this weekend and continue below average through Tuesday. Highs will return to normal by the middle of next week. Weird weather we're having- there's an unrelenting heat wave in the nation's midsection, while we here in Northern California are experiencing spring-like temps in June. Strange! Here's Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Today: Showers likely after 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 71. South wind between 8 and 13 mph. Happy First Day of Summer

Today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year (as far as hours of daylight). Today definitely felt like the first day of summer, as the high temperature in Chico reached 97 degrees. The first full weekend of summer will feel more like the middle of spring, as a deep trough of low pressure swings down from the Gulf of Alaska. There may even be a slight chance of showers Saturday with this trough. What will definitely happen will be a reduction of temps beginning tomorrow. By Saturday, highs will be up to 20 degrees cooler than today's highs. The cooler air will last through the middle of next week. Get outside this weekend and enjoy the refreshing weather headed our way! Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Tonight: Clear, with a low around 61. South wind around 6 mph becoming east northeast. Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 91. South southeast wind 5 to 8 mph increasing to between 17 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Well-deserved after last weekend's triple digit heat. Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Today: Sunny, with a high near 91. Hot Father's Day in Chico

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! The National Weather Service was off with its forecast high yesterday by about five degrees- it reached 106 degrees at Chico Airport at 4:47 yesterday afternoon (the forecast high was 101 degrees). I believe that makes yesterday the hottest day in about three years. There will be one more day of triple digit heat before temps cool down into the 90s this upcoming week. That sounds strange- cooling off into the 90s! By next weekend, temps will be nearly 20 degrees cooler than this weekend as a trough allows southerly winds to transport cooler marine air up from the Delta. The NWS is forecasting winds from the south today, as well, so hopefully that will moderate the heat a bit. Looking forward to next weekend! Here's Chico's seven day forecast from the NWS: Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 102. Calm wind becoming south southeast between 8 and 11 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 64. South southeast wind between 8 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Monday: Sunny, with a high near 92. South southeast wind between 3 and 8 mph. Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 59. Southeast wind at 5 mph becoming north. Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 91. North northwest wind between 9 and 11 mph. Tuesday Night: Clear, with a low around 62. Still Hot

Yesterday's high temperature in Chico was 102 degrees, making June 15th the hottest day of the year so far. It may not get as hot today or tomorrow, as the National Weather Service has revised the temperature forecast downward. Highs today and tomorrow will only top out around 101 degrees, instead of the 103-105 degrees they were forecasting. Still, it's going to be hot, so take precautions to keep yourself cool this weekend. By Tuesday, look for refreshing highs in the upper 80s. Most of next week will see see-sawing temps in the low to upper 90s. Sunny skies will rule, as is the case this time of year. Here is Chico's specific seven day forecast from the NWS: Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 101. North northwest wind between 7 and 13 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 70. North northwest wind between 5 and 9 mph. Sunday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 101. Calm wind becoming south southeast between 11 and 14 mph. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Bad Hair Day Alert

The past couple of days in Chico have been beautiful, with sunny skies, low humidity, and mild temperatures in the lower 80s (we should see highs around 88 degrees on average for early June). This nice, fairly calm weather is about to go buh-bye beginning tomorrow. Low pressure over the Pacific Northwest will begin to exit the area and high pressure will build in behind it. This will cause a strong pressure gradient, resulting in wind speeds of up to 45 mph from the northwest in the Sacramento Valley tomorrow. In addition, these winds will really dry out the air, resulting in humidities in the 10-15% range. As a result, both a Red Flag Warning and a Wind Advisory are up for tomorrow. The Red Flag Warning is for high fire danger and is in effect from 11 am until 10 pm tomorrow. The Wind Advisory is for (you guessed it) strong winds gusting between 25-40 mph, with locally higher gusts. It is in effect from 8 am until 10 pm tomorrow. Hence the reason I have personally issued a Bad Hair Day Alert for tomorrow. Wear lots of hair spray or just say "Screw it" and let that hair blow naturally! Oh, and it's going to get hot next week. Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s for Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will moderate a bit mid-week. Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Tonight: Clear, with a low around 51. Northwest wind between 9 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 81. Breezy, with a north northwest wind between 18 and 24 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph. Saturday Night: Clear, with a low around 55. North northwest wind 18 to 21 mph becoming west southwest 9 to 12 mph. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph. Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 90. South southeast wind 10 to 14 mph becoming north northwest. Winds could gust as high as 18 mph. Sunday Night: Clear, with a low around 59. North wind between 7 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Monday: Sunny, with a high near 95. Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 63. Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 95. Tuesday Night: Clear, with a low around 61. Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 92. Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 62. Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 88. Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. Friday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

beautiful weekend ahead

Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, with sunny skies, low humidity, and temperatures in the lower 80s. It was a bit breezy, with northwest winds around 20 mph. The sunshine and warm temperatures should continue through the beginning of next week as high pressure is large and in charge. Winds today will not be as prevalent as yesterday, and highs should be right around where they were yesterday. It'll start to heat up a bit Sunday through Tuesday, with highs in the low to mid 90s. However, there will be no blazingly hot weather for awhile, and that is nice. Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. Calm wind becoming south between 5 and 8 mph. Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 54. South southeast wind at 6 mph becoming north. Friday: Sunny, with a high near 81. update on the weather forecast for early next week

It looks as though this weather system that will affect us Monday will be a little more potent than previously thought. The far northern areas of the state will see the effects first, and precipitation will spread southward late Sunday/ early Monday. High temperatures will go from the low 90s today in Chico to the lower to mid 70s on Monday. Temps will return to seasonal levels by the middle of next week, but we won't see any 90+ degree temps for the next few days (after today). Here is Chico's updated seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Today: Sunny, with a high near 92. Calm wind becoming south around 6 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 60. showers for Monday?

There may be a chance of showers in the forecast for Monday as a cold front sweeps through our region. This cold front will also bring a brief reprieve from the heat. Yesterday's high in Chico was 95 degrees, and today should be a few degrees hotter (I was wrong about yesterday being the hottest day of the week- sorry!). This weekend looks warm, with tomorrow's high in the low 90s and Sunday's high dipping into the upper 80s. Monday through Wednesday look nice (other than the showers on Monday-personally I don't think it will happen), with temps in the 70s to around 80 degrees. Here is Chico's updated seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Calm wind becoming south southwest around 5 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 63. North northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm. Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 93. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph. Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59. Southeast wind between 3 and 6 mph. Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 88. South wind between 6 and 8 mph. Sunday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 58. Monday: A 40 percent chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 73. Monday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. Tuesday: A slight chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 74. Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 50. Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 81. Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 85.
