showery today and Monday; nice the rest of the week

From the National Weather Service:

A COLD FOR THE SEASON LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM CONTINUES TO SPIN OFF
THE CALIFORNIA COAST. THE SYSTEM HAS BROUGHT ROUGHLY HALF OF AN
INCH OF RAIN TO THE SACRAMENTO AND NORTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEYS...
WITH HIGHER TOTALS TOWARDS THE COASTAL RANGES. WHILE THE FRONTAL
SYSTEM WILL GRADUALLY WEAKEN...EXPECT SHOWERS TO CONTINUE THROUGH
TONIGHT. SNOW LEVELS ARE AT AROUND 8000 FEET AND SHOULD REMAIN ABOVE
THE INTERSTATE 80 AND HIGHWAY 50 PASS LEVELS THROUGH MOST OF TODAY
BEFORE LOWERING LATER TONIGHT INTO TOMORROW MORNING.

THE MAIN UPPER LOW IS FORECAST TO MOVE INLAND LATE TONIGHT AND
MONDAY BRINGING A CONTINUED SHOWER THREAT ESPECIALLY TO THE
SIERRA. THUNDERSTORMS MAY ALSO BE POSSIBLE ACROSS THE REGION
THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE COLD AIR ASSOCIATED WITH THE
LOW WILL BRING DOWN SNOW LEVELS BETWEEN 6500-7000 FEET AND PASS
LEVELS OF THE SIERRA CASCADE RANGE COULD SEE AN ADDITIONAL SEVERAL
INCHES OF SNOWFALL LATE TONIGHT THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON. IF
TRAVELING TO OR THROUGH THE SIERRA CASCADE RANGE TODAY
THROUGH MONDAY...CARRY TIRE CHAINS AND COLD WEATHER SUPPLIES AND
BE PREPARED TO ENCOUNTER INCLEMENT WEATHER.

DAYTIME HIGH TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE WEEKEND WILL RUN BETWEEN 10 AND
20 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR UNDER THE COOL AIR
MASS. NEAR RECORD LOW MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES ARE POSSIBLE.

So yes, it will be rather soggy today and tomorrow (hopefully nothing like yesterday). However, from Tuesday all the way into next week, look for sunny skies and high temps in the upper 70s to mid 80s. Yesterday it was grey and gloomy all day, and Chico saw .35 of an inch of rain. That is almost unheard of in June, as we normally are well into our dry season by this time of year. Unfortunately, since Chico does not have an official weather reporting station (and thus, no official record keeping), I don't know if yesterday's rainfall amount was a record for the date. I'm sure other cities across northern California had some record rainfall yesterday. Temperatures were stuck in the 50s to lower 60s for much of the day yesterday. The sun did manage to peek through the clouds briefly late yesterday afternoon, but the clouds soon returned, along with some scattered rain showers right around sunset. Currently as I type this it is partly sunny at my house, but 1300 feet below me, the Sacramento valley looks shrouded in fog and low clouds. It may be another weird weather day!
