I just got back into town, and I understand there will be some major changes to the weather across Northern California this upcoming week. An exceptionally strong area of low pressure is gathering strength in the Eastern Pacific and will come charging into our region Tuesday and linger into Wednesday. Rainfall amounts from one-third to one-half of an inch will fall in the Central and Northern Sacramento Valley, while snow (yes, snow) will fall above 8000' in the northern Sierra Nevada mountains Tuesday night and Wednesday. We can't rule out an isolated thunderstorm in the valley and foothills Tuesday afternoon. High temperatures will only make it to around 70 degrees (nearly 20 degrees below average) on Tuesday, and mid 70s for Wednesday. However, this cool period will be brief; expect to see temps climb to around 100 degrees by the Fourth of July weekend. Hot as a firecracker for the Fourth? It looks likely!
