First, I'd like to issue a correction. In my previous post I mentioned that Chico averages around an inch of precipitation in June. Wrong- according to The Weather Channel, Chico averages only .47 inches in June. Between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning, Chico reveived 1.25 inches of rain- that is a record for June! The clouds and rain are but a distant memory now, and the heat will begin in earnest tomorrow. High temperatures will soar from the mid 80s today to the upper 90s tomorrow. It'll stay in the upper 90s for Saturday and break 100 degrees (for the first time this year) by Sunday. Right now it looks like triple digit heat will occur every day from Sunday through next Thursday, making it a bona fide heat wave. Be safe this holiday weekend; if doing any outdoor activities, especially on or near the water, remember the water temps are still quite chilly and area creeks and rivers are full and running swiftly due to recent snowmelt. As far as Fourth of July events happening this weekend, check out the Chico Outlaws baseball team as they host Edmonton all this weekend at Nettleton Stadium on the Chico State campus. On Monday evening, stick around after the game for a fireworks spectacular. Also on Monday the Fourth, Chico will have its community Fourth of July celebration in Lower Bidwell Park all day. Fireworks displays will occur Monday evening at Lake Oroville and at the Silver Dollar Speedway after the races. Also, the Friday Night Concerts in the Park resume beginning tomorrow night at the Dowtown Plaza in Chico. The Chico Community Band will be playing tomorrow evening beginning at 7 pm. Go check them out! Have a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend! Here's Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service:
