latest update on potential high wind event

The High Wind Watch has been cancelled. Now we're under a High Wind Warning, which means it is more than likely we will see damaging winds during the next 24-36 hours. More from the National Weather Service:

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SACRAMENTO HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND
WARNING FOR THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN SACRAMENTO VALLEY...CARQUINEZ
STRAIT AND DELTA...NORTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY AND MOTHERLODE...
WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS EVENING TO 11 AM PDT SUNDAY.
THE HIGH WIND WATCH HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

* WINDS: SOUTHEAST WINDS 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO AROUND 40 MPH
THIS EVENING...INCREASING TO 30 TO 40 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 60 MPH
OR HIGHER AFTER MIDNIGHT.

* TIMING: WINDS INCREASING THIS EVENING WITH STRONGEST WINDS AFTER
MIDNIGHT. WINDS DECREASING BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON.

* LOCATIONS INCLUDE: CHICO...YUBA CITY...SACRAMENTO...VACAVILLE...
FAIRFIELD...STOCKTON...MODESTO...GRASS VALLEY...PLACERVILLE

HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ESPECIALLY FOR SMALL CARS AND HIGH
PROFILE VEHICLES. LOOSE OBJECTS SHOULD BE TIED DOWN OR BROUGHT
INSIDE.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS A HAZARDOUS HIGH WIND EVENT IS EXPECTED
OR OCCURRING. SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS OF
58 MPH OR MORE CAN LEAD TO PROPERTY DAMAGE.

Again, I can't stress enough to prepare for this. Buy non-perishable foods, batteries, and candles. Widespread power outages are likely. Tie down any loose objects, or, better yet, store them in your garage or storage shed. Hopefully this event won't be as bad as the windstorm of January 4-5, 2008. Power was out in some areas for a week! I hope that doesn't happen again. Stay safe!
