I'm sure a lot of Californians are asking that question right now. So far this rainy season, the state has not seen a tremendous amount of moisture. All areas of the state are reporting below normal precipitation up to this point in the season. I know it's still fairly early, but will we really see the typical El Nino pattern of the past? Normally with El Nino, most of California sees above average precipitation during the rainy season. So far, that is yet to happen. The seven day outlook doesn't look too promising, either. Maybe January will be wetter than normal. Of course, that's what I hoped for in December. For now, we remain stuck in a drought with no end in sight. Here's the latest forecast for Chico from the NWS:
Today: Sunny, with a high near 55. North northwest wind between 6 and 8 mph.
Tonight: Clear, with a low around 27. Northeast wind around 6 mph.
Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 56. North northwest wind between 3 and 5 mph.
Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 28. East northeast wind between 3 and 6 mph.
Christmas Day: Sunny, with a high near 56. Northeast wind around 6 mph.
Friday Night: Patchy fog after 10pm. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 33.
Saturday: Partly sunny, with a high near 55.
Saturday Night: A slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37.
Sunday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 53.
Sunday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35.
Monday: A slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49.
Monday Night: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 34.
Tuesday: A slight chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 49.
If anyone has plans to travel east for the holidays, I would seriously rethink those plans. A major snowstorm will slowly move through the Midwest over the next couple of days, and the East Coast will be affected by Christmas. Many people will get their wish for a white Christmas, that's for sure!
