still stormy for New Year's

The National Weather Service is still predicting a wet New Year's Eve and New Year's Day as a storm with fairly abundant moisture moves ashore from the Pacific. More rain is expected with this storm than the last (Chico got a little over a third of an inch), while temperatures will remain steady in the upper 40s to lower 50s. The high temperature in Chico today was 52, while the low was 46. It should remain dry for the first weekend of 2010. Dress for the weather if heading out for New Year's celebrations. Here's Chico's seven day forecast from the NWS:

Thursday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 51. East northeast wind 5 to 9 mph becoming south southeast. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Thursday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 45. Southeast wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

New Year's Day: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 53. Southeast wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers. Areas of fog after 4am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.

Saturday: Areas of fog before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 54.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 35.

Sunday: A slight chance of rain. Partly cloudy, with a high near 53.

Sunday Night: A slight chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Monday: A slight chance of rain. Partly cloudy, with a high near 54.
