chilly mornings, mild afternoons

This is the time of year in these parts where you need to dress in layers. Start out with a coat or jacket, and then peel off layers of clothing as the day wears on until you end up with a short sleeve shirt. The low temperature this morning out at the Chico State Farm south of town was a cold 37 degrees! Lows in the region ranged from the upper 30s to lower 40s this morning. By this afternoon, many locations were seeing temps in the lower to mid 70s. This trend will continue for the next seven days- chilly nights followed by sunny and mild afternoons. Perfect fall weather! Here's the detailed forecast for Chico from the National Weather Service:

Tonight: Clear, with a low around 44. North wind between 4 and 7 mph becoming calm.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 74. Northwest wind between 3 and 5 mph.

Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 46. Light and variable wind.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 72. Northeast wind at 5 mph becoming west southwest.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 48. Calm wind becoming north northeast around 6 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 75.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 76.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 49.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 76.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 48.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 72.
