significant storm for Thanksgiving?

Today has been mostly cloudy in Chico, with temperatures hovering in the mid 60s this afternoon. Winds have increased from the southeast this afternoon ahead of the next storm to impact our region beginning tonight and lasting through tomorrow. Snow levels will initially be high- 6500 feet in the Sierra Nevada late tonight. However, the snow level will fall to around 3000 feet by late tomorrow as colder air filters in behind this storm. For the valley, including Chico, rain is likely late tonight and lasting through tomorrow. We may see about a quarter to a half an inch of rain from this storm between tonight and tomorrow night. A weaker storm moves through late Saturday/ Sunday time frame. This storm will have less precipitation with it, but the cold air already in place may lower snow levels down to around 2000 feet by Saturday night. Forecast models are trending toward a powerful storm with abundant moisture affecting our area next Wednesday into Thanksgiving, just in time to impact holiday travel. This storm will originate in the Pacific, and not the Gulf of Alaska; as a result, we will see more precipitation but warmer air with the Thanksgiving storm. The timing is still iffy at this point, but check back for updates, especially if traveling to the mountains for some holiday skiing. For now, here's the latest forecast for Chico from the National Weather Service:
