The risk of thunderstorms is still in the forecast today for the Sacramento Valley, but any widespread severe weather is not expected. Still, an isolated severe thunderstorm cell could pop up later this afternoon, producing gusty winds and small hail. Be prepared to seek shelter if that happens. Otherwise, expect showers this morning, along with gusty winds to nearly 30 mph. The sun may break out through the clouds later this morning or early this afternoon. That will further destabilize the atmosphere, causing warm air at the surface (heated by the sun, of course) to rise into the colder, unstable air aloft. This usually creates showers and thunderstorms. Showers persist into the early part of the work week, but we will be back in the sun and warmer temps by the middle and latter part of the week.
