the "lack of rain" season continues

Well, Chico will finish December with only .26" of rain, making it the second driest December on record. And it looks like there is no significant rain in the forecast for at least the next seven days. High pressure will strengthen over Northern California, allowing high temperatures to climb into the lower to mid 60s the next few days. Overnight lows will remain chilly- mainly in the 30s. This dry air allows the huge temperature diurnal (the difference between the overnight low and daytime high temperature). We still have plenty of winter left, but this lack of rainfall is concerning. Also, if you're out and about celebrating the new year, expect dry conditions and temps hovering in the mid 40s around midnight tonight. Here is the seven day forecast for Chico from the National Weather Service:

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. South wind 7 to 9 mph becoming west.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 35. North northeast wind around 7 mph.

New Year's Day: Mostly sunny, with a high near 64. North northwest wind around 6 mph.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 36. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming east southeast.

Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. East southeast wind between 5 and 7 mph.

Monday Night: Patchy fog after 10pm. Areas of frost after 10pm. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 36.

Tuesday: Patchy fog before 10am. Areas of frost before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 61.

Tuesday Night: Patchy fog after 10pm. Patchy frost after 10pm. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 36.

Wednesday: Patchy fog before 10am. Patchy frost before 10am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 63.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 39.

Thursday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59.

Thursday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36.
