This weekend is a study in contrasts, as today will be winter-like and unsettled, while tomorrow will be calm and sunny. A strong frontal system is moving through Northern California today, bringing showers and very gusty winds. A Wind Advisory is up for the Sacramento Valley (including Chico) until 7 pm this evening for wind gusts to 55 mph. This can make driving difficult and may also bring down some tree limbs. If you haven't done so already, tie down and secure any loose objects in your yard. There won't be much rain with this storm, so expect mainly showers throughout today. There is a chance of thunderstorms this afternoon once the cold front swings through and the actual low pressure system behind the front hovers over the area. Some storms could produce lightning and small hail. In the mountains, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Sierra Nevada through tomorrow morning. A foot or more of snow is expected as heavy snow is likely to fall. Carry a winter survival kit in your vehicle if you must travel in the mountains today. Once this storm passes, sunny skies will return. Tomorrow will still be blustery, but the winds will shift from the southeast today to the northwest tomorow. Sunshine will stick around for the first part of next week, but weak storms could brush our area Tuesday through next Friday. Here's Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service:
