winter- like weather returns

From the National Weather Service office in Sacramento:

WINTER RETURNS TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA THIS WEEK...

MUCH OF THE COMING WEEK IS FORECAST TO BE MORE WINTER LIKE THAN
WHAT NORTHERN CALIFORNIA HAS EXPERIENCE FOR MUCH OF THE PAST
COUPLE OF MONTHS. A WEAK WEATHER SYSTEM WILL DROP THROUGH NORTHERN
CALIFORNIA TONIGHT AND EARLY MONDAY. THIS SYSTEM IS ONLY EXPECTED
TO BRING VERY LIGHT AMOUNTS OF RAINFALL TO THE VALLEY AND LIKELY
ONLY AN INCH OR TWO OF SNOWFALL TO THE MOUNTAINS. SNOW LEVELS WILL
BE QUITE LOW WITH THIS COLD SYSTEM HOWEVER WITH VERY LIGHT SNOW
FALLING AS LOW AS THE 1000 TO 2000 FOOT LEVEL.

THERE WILL BE A BRIEF BREAK ON TUESDAY FOLLOWED BY A STRONGER
WEATHER SYSTEM FORECAST TO SWING THROUGH NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING PERIODS OF
VALLEY RAIN...MOUNTAIN SNOW AND GUSTY WINDS AT LEAST INTO
THURSDAY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS IN THE VALLEY ARE FORECAST TO RANGE
FROM A THIRD OF AN INCH IN THE NORTHERN SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY TO
THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH IN THE NORTHERN SACRAMENTO VALLEY.
SEVERAL INCHES OF SNOWFALL ARE POSSIBLE OVER THE MOUNTAINS OF
SHASTA COUNTY WITH AS MUCH AS A FOOT OF NEW SNOW POSSIBLE OVER
THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA CASCADE RANGE. WINDY
CONDITIONS WILL ACCOMPANY THIS SYSTEM. THE SACRAMENTO VALLEY WILL
SEE SOUTHERLY WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WEDNESDAY WHILE THE HIGHER
ELEVATIONS OF THE SIERRA COULD SEE WIND GUSTS IN EXCESS OF 50 TO
60 MPH. THE WINDS COMBINED WITH SNOWFALL WILL MAKE MOUNTAIN TRAVEL
HAZARDOUS LATER THIS WEEK SO IF TRAVELING INTO THE
MOUNTAINS...CHECK THE LATEST ROAD AND WEATHER REPORTS BEFORE
DEPARTURE.

THE THREAT OF SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE INTO THURSDAY AND FRIDAY WITH
LONG RANGE PROJECTIONS SHOWING A RETURN OF FAIR WEATHER BY NEXT
WEEKEND.
