Bad Hair Day Alert

The past couple of days in Chico have been beautiful, with sunny skies, low humidity, and mild temperatures in the lower 80s (we should see highs around 88 degrees on average for early June). This nice, fairly calm weather is about to go buh-bye beginning tomorrow. Low pressure over the Pacific Northwest will begin to exit the area and high pressure will build in behind it. This will cause a strong pressure gradient, resulting in wind speeds of up to 45 mph from the northwest in the Sacramento Valley tomorrow. In addition, these winds will really dry out the air, resulting in humidities in the 10-15% range. As a result, both a Red Flag Warning and a Wind Advisory are up for tomorrow. The Red Flag Warning is for high fire danger and is in effect from 11 am until 10 pm tomorrow. The Wind Advisory is for (you guessed it) strong winds gusting between 25-40 mph, with locally higher gusts. It is in effect from 8 am until 10 pm tomorrow. Hence the reason I have personally issued a Bad Hair Day Alert for tomorrow. Wear lots of hair spray or just say "Screw it" and let that hair blow naturally! Oh, and it's going to get hot next week. Highs will be in the mid to upper 90s for Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures will moderate a bit mid-week. It looks as though this weather system that will affect us Monday will be a little more potent than previously thought. Gusty winds, valley showers, and mountain snow above 7000 feet will be likely as the storm pivots through. The far northern areas of the state will see the effects first, and precipitation will spread southward late Sunday/ early Monday. There may be a chance of showers in the forecast for Monday as a cold front sweeps through our region. This cold front will also bring a brief reprieve from the heat. Yesterday's high in Chico was 95 degrees, and today should be a few degrees hotter (I was wrong about yesterday being the hottest day of the week- sorry!).
