still nice weather ahead

This weekend was absolutely spectacular, with sunnys skies both yesterday and today and highs in the mid 70s. Last Friday was mostly cloudy, with some spits of rain and highs right around 70 degrees. That will likely be our last chance for rain for awhile. Sunny skies will continue this work week and temps will gradually increase. However, highs should stay below 90 degrees through next weekend. It could be much hotter this time of year, that's for sure. I'm loving this relatively mild weather! I know many people in the Intermountain West wish they could have our weather. Utah and Colorado are getting hit hard with numerous wildfires and searing heat. Again, I'm thankful for the weather we're having. Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. Calm wind becoming east northeast around 6 mph. Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. South southeast wind 5 to 8 mph increasing to between 13 and 16 mph. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Monday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 50. Temps will warm into the mid 70s this weekend and continue below average through Tuesday. Highs will return to normal by the middle of next week. Happy First Day of Summer

Today is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year (as far as hours of daylight). Today definitely felt like the first day of summer, as the high temperature in Chico reached 97 degrees. The first full weekend of summer will feel more like the middle of spring, as a deep trough of low pressure swings down from the Gulf of Alaska. There may even be a slight chance of showers Saturday with this trough. What will definitely happen will be a reduction of temps beginning tomorrow. By Saturday, highs will be up to 20 degrees cooler than today's highs. The cooler air will last through the middle of next week. Get outside this weekend and enjoy the refreshing weather headed our way! Here is Chico's seven day forecast from the National Weather Service: Tonight: Clear, with a low around 61. South wind around 6 mph becoming east northeast. Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 91. South southeast wind 5 to 8 mph increasing to between 17 and 20 mph. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57. South southeast wind between 13 and 21 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 80. South wind between 6 and 13 mph. Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 57. South wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Saturday: A 20 percent chance of showers after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 77. Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 77. Hot Father's Day in Chico

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! The National Weather Service was off with its forecast high yesterday by about five degrees- it reached 106 degrees at Chico Airport at 4:47 yesterday afternoon (the forecast high was 101 degrees). I believe that makes yesterday the hottest day in about three years. There will be one more day of triple digit heat before temps cool down into the 90s this upcoming week. That sounds strange- cooling off into the 90s! By next weekend, temps will be nearly 20 degrees cooler than this weekend as a trough allows southerly winds to transport cooler marine air up from the Delta. The NWS is forecasting winds from the south today, as well, so hopefully that will moderate the heat a bit. Looking forward to next weekend! Here's Chico's seven day forecast from the NWS: Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 102. Calm wind becoming south southeast between 8 and 11 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 64. South southeast wind between 8 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Monday: Sunny, with a high near 92. South southeast wind between 3 and 8 mph. Monday Night: Clear, with a low around 59. Southeast wind at 5 mph becoming north. Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 91. North northwest wind between 9 and 11 mph. Tuesday Night: Clear, with a low around 62. Wednesday: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Wednesday Night: Clear, with a low around 63. Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 95. Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 59. Friday: Sunny, with a high near 88. Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 61. Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 87.
