It looks like December 2011 will go down as the second driest on record for Chico. Just .25" has fallen since December 1st. With only scant chances of rain for this week, the prospects don't look good for clawing out of our rainfall deficit. We still have a ways to go in the rainy season (the rainy season usually winds down in April), so hopefully we can still catch up. It looks as though the Pacific Northwest will get the lion's share of the precipitation this week. Stubborn high pressure over California will shunt all of the stormy weather to our north. Plus, the jet stream is aimed right at Oregon and Washington, and the storm path rides along the jet stream. Translation: don't look for much rain in our area for awhile. Here is the not-so-wet forecast for Chico from the National Weather Service:

Wednesday: A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 59. Calm wind. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.
